Extension of a Prime Medical Hospital

Review and implementation of local and CBAHI, client and operational requirements, SD design by an international medical planner, medical equipment planning and details, architecture and MEP detailed design, tender package, support in tendering, and construction management. In association with Tahpi.

The IMC ER expansion tower was part of an overall expansion and growth project by the renowned International Medical Center Company, who are a leading medical operator in Saudi Arabia. The overall vision was to build a comprehensive medical development with state-of-the-art, interconnected facilities, including medical and educational buildings, within a prime location in Jeddah.

This was an extension of the existing, exquisite, high-end 170-bed hospital, which was built adjacent to the existing building on a land area of 3,300 m2, with an approximate built-up area of 22,000 m2. It comprised a ground floor and six floors above ground level. The extension included emergency departments and ICUs, CCU, and cath labs, and complemented the existing ER department and functions of the existing hospital. In addition, 11 operation theatres were added to the existing 7 operation theatres within the existing hospital, and other support spaces were added within the existing hospital to serve both the existing and the new extension.

The challenge in this project came from ensuring the consistent operation of such an important and busy facility, while working on both the adjacent extensions, as well as existing spaces within the functioning  hospital.
